"A Bracelet, A Brooch and A Teapot Walk Into a Bar… "
Juror: Andy Cooperman

Identifying what makes us laugh is like trying to pinch a watermelon seed. Tricky business to be sure, especially when factoring in personal preference, political (in)correctness and culture. From highbrow to slapstick, anecdotal, ironic, mordant, dark or dry, artists have long used humor in their work as a mechanism to address the broader and often more difficult issues of society and life. This exhibition celebrates humor-- in any and all forms -- embodied in an object.

Entries may include work that honors humor even in the broadest sense while embracing the diverse field of metalworking and jewelry. Jewelry, vessels, utensils, installation, and sculpture will be considered. We encourage the use of a wide variety of materials and techniques.

DEADLINE EXTENDED to December 4, 2015.REFINED is a biennial exhibition of jewelry and metalwork hosted by the Art Metals program in the School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) since 1998. This year’s juror is Andrew Cooperman. The exhibition is held in the 1332 square-foot Reavley Gallery of the Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, located at 329 E. Main Street in historic downtown Nacogdoches, Texas. $1,500 in cash prizes awarded at juror’s discretion. DEADLINE EXTENDED to December 4, 2015.

Typeset
Typeset is an exhibition exploring connections between jewelry and literature. Coinciding with ZOOM 2016, this project will build on our previous collaborative exhibition on this theme, Wordsmith, by setting literary-minded art jewelry objects into the Special Collections at the Golda Meir Library at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.
Submissions are sought from jewelers who embrace text, story and history in their work. Selected works will be shown alongside literary objects drawn from the incredible catalogue of the Special Collections Library. By illuminating contexts, connections and modes of making, we aim to deepen our understanding of the places where jewelry and literature meet.
ZOOM Milwaukee is a Midwest symposium on contemporary craft and digital technologies. Hosted by UW-Milwaukee Jewelry & Metals, May 25-29, 2016. Find out more here.

With Moves like MacGyver...
It is no secret that makers + smiths are a crafty bunch! With moves like MacGyver will highlight jewelry, objects, and the tools created to make these pieces a reality. The exhibition will examine the creative processes of the individuals represented, giving viewers a glimpse at the processes these artists use to improvise, exquisitely craft, or get downright inventive to get the job done.
This is a traveling exhibition
